Since I have given up my studio for the time being...space being at a premium...I've been experimenting painting on my computer using Photoshop. Not quite the same but I like the results!

Examples of a mural a friend and I were commissioned to paint in a BBQ shed on a camp ground by the sea in Whangerei....
The mural was designed to encapsulate the native plant and wildlife of New Zealand.

My first New Zealand blog 7 months into my trip! The painting above is my first New Zealand commission!...made for a friend I met working in a warehouse of all places!Im fairly pleased with it considering I used very cheap materials...!Included are also some 'epic' landscape photos taken from around the South Island. Many more will be included in the next blog after my 3 week south island tour in a campervan:)

Just wanted to say a great big THANKS to the Hubb and all the people who made positive comments/supported my paintings being up there!

...and of corse to all the people who invested their hard earned cash in aquiring themselves some rather large paintings! Thanks for the support!

Also a great big sorry to the people I was going to commission a painting for seen as their favourite painting had been sold minutes before they inquired. Maybe when I get back?

Off to New Zealand April 20th to do some exploring and gain some inspiration for future projects...im sure ill be posting regular updates here....with sketchbook scribblings included.

I am feeling fed up with my work being judged by bloody numbers!I am so glad to be leaving this system where I feel I have recieved little support..(apart from fellow students) and now I look forward to being able to get on with what I want to do...Its what you do now that counts...time to look forward!I received so much positive feedback from my work at the graduate show which has instilled alot of confidence in me and my paintings so I know support is out there!!Anyway RANT over...

Have just registered to take part in a project called Bloom where the European Institute of Art has teamed up with a hotel in Brussels who want their 300 rooms painted by current or recent graduates. 5 days in Brussels and payed for your work?cant be bad..watch this space.

Artist Statement for Graduate Work

This Practice marks a passage of growth.

This painterly journey has facilitated a stage of resolution that has brought about a deeper understanding of my own practice.

Within my practice the the body is as a landscape. Crisp and contoured like a map, flowing with movement and energy. Clothed or unclothed it emits and evokes different sensations, surfaces, shades, tints and shapes; a rhapsody of colour and form.

Inspired by the shapes and forms created by the Abstract Expressionists and the painterly styles of modern figurative painters like Jenny Saville and Lucian Freud, I have reduced the body to its’ simplest form incorporating a rawness and exposed quality of loose paint strokes.

Each work represents and explores different visceral sensations and the less tangible experiences of the body. This enables a focus on form and the relationships and emotions equated to the ambiance of the body, the sensation of being.

My painting works through creating layers and textures to represent the memories and emotions embedded within the flesh, with the visible, representational form of the body fading in and out of the painting.

It encapsulates the tactile experience of the body in contact with the canvas, in the viewing and in the process of making.

Progress of the work is beginning to fit together for the summer exhibition. The development of my work during the past few months has been huge and I feel I have come such a long way through experimentation and a huge influence from abstract expressionism....especially the females expressionists!!!

Buffie Johnson once said "when "you paint like a man" was the biggest compliment one could receive as a female artist"

Please Do Not Bend...

Took part as a contributing artist in the Please do not bend event which took place at City Screen York on March 8th 2007. Tickets were available for £10 and for this everyone got a piece of artwork sealed in an A5 'please do not bend' envelope. I created 4 A5 pieces, which for me was not easy working on such a small scale, so I painted on my usual larger scale and cut out the most successful areas. I was really scared to find out who had received my work, but they all seemed happy and came to discuss my work with me which was really interesting. Very good night.
